How to delete your data
1. Overview
This page explains how to permanently delete your Threadline account and how to remove all Instagram and Meta-related information that Threadline holds about you. Every method described here is self-service and takes effect immediately, except where noted.
Threadline is an independent product operated by Surya Vedantham, a sole proprietorship. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Meta Platforms, Inc. Threadline accesses Instagram data only through Meta's official APIs, and only with permissions you grant.
There are three things you may want to do. They are separate actions, and you can perform any or all of them:
- Delete the data for a single connected Instagram account — see section 2
- Delete your entire Threadline account and all data — see section 3
- Revoke Threadline's access to your Instagram account at Meta — see section 4
2. Delete data for one Instagram account
Use this if you want to disconnect a single Instagram account and erase everything Threadline stored for it, while keeping your Threadline account and any other connected accounts intact.
- Sign in to Threadline and open Settings.
- Select the Instagram account you want to remove using the account switcher.
- Open the Danger Zone section.
- Under Remove this account, click Remove account.
- Confirm when prompted.
What this deletes: the Instagram connection and its stored access token, every conversation and Direct Message we hold for that account, all comment automation rules and records of comments we replied to, and all knowledge base content, sales scenarios, and AI embeddings scoped to that account. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
What this keeps: your Threadline login, your subscription, and any other Instagram accounts you have connected.
3. Delete your entire Threadline account
Use this to erase everything. This removes all of your data across every connected Instagram account, cancels your subscription, and deletes your login credentials.
- Sign in to Threadline and open Settings.
- Open the Danger Zone section.
- Under Delete account, click Delete account.
- Type DELETE into the confirmation field.
- Click Delete my account.
Your active subscription is cancelled first, so you are not billed after deletion. All of your data is then erased, and your login is removed. You are signed out automatically once the deletion completes.
This is permanent and irreversible. There is no grace period and no recovery window. If you may want your data later, export or record what you need before deleting.
4. Revoke Threadline's access on Instagram
This is a separate step, and you should do both.
Deleting your data in Threadline does not automatically revoke the permission you granted to Threadline inside Instagram. Revoking that permission at Meta does not, on its own, delete the data Threadline already holds. To fully disconnect, complete the deletion in section 2 or 3 and revoke access below.
From the Instagram app
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu, then Settings and privacy.
- Tap Website permissions, then Apps and websites.
- Find Threadline in the active list and tap Remove.
From Meta Business Settings
- Go to Meta Business Suite and open Settings.
- Open Business assets and select the connected Instagram account.
- Under connected apps, remove Threadline.
Once access is revoked, Threadline can no longer read or send messages on your behalf, and Meta stops delivering webhook events for your account.
5. What data we delete
The following is everything Threadline stores that originates from Instagram or Meta. All of it is erased by the deletion methods above.
| Category | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Account connection | Your Instagram professional account ID, username, display name, and the encrypted long-lived access token used to send messages on your behalf |
| Conversations | Instagram thread identifiers, the Instagram-scoped user ID and username of each person who messaged you, their follower count, and follow relationship |
| Messages | The full text of every Direct Message received and every reply sent, Instagram message identifiers, timestamps, AI confidence scores, and review flags |
| Comments | Instagram comment identifiers we processed, the Instagram media IDs selected in your automation rules, and the reply and DM templates attached to them |
| Derived AI data | Vector embeddings, compiled business context, and knowledge base content generated from the above |
| Account and billing | Your name, email address, business profile, login credentials, and subscription record |
6. Deletion timeline
- Immediately: data is permanently erased from Threadline's live systems when you confirm deletion. It is not recoverable and is not retained in an archive.
- Within 7 days: residual copies may persist in encrypted database backups. These are overwritten on a rolling 7-day cycle and are never used to restore deleted accounts.
- Retained where law requires: transaction and invoice records needed for tax and accounting obligations, which contain no Instagram or message data.
7. Requesting deletion by email
If you cannot access your dashboard — or if you are an Instagram user who messaged a business that uses Threadline and want the record of your conversation removed — you can request deletion directly. You do not need a Threadline account to make this request.
Email info@aithreadline.com with the subject line Data Deletion Request and include:
- Your Instagram username
- The Instagram username of the business you messaged, if you are not a Threadline customer
- The email address on your Threadline account, if you have one
We may ask you to verify control of the account before acting, so that we do not delete someone else's data on an unverified request. We confirm completion by email and act on verified requests within 30 days.
8. Third-party services
Threadline uses a small number of processors to operate the Service. Deleting your account affects them as follows:
- Anthropic: message content is sent to Anthropic's API to generate replies. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms this data is used only to return a response and is not used to train models. Threadline stores no copy after deletion.
- Clerk: authentication provider. Your login and session records are deleted when your account is deleted.
- Stripe: payment processor. Your subscription is cancelled. Stripe retains transaction records independently where financial regulation requires.
- PostHog: product analytics. Usage events are deleted on request; email us using the process in section 7 if you want analytics records removed as well.
- Meta / Instagram: Meta holds its own copy of your Instagram account and message data independently of Threadline. Deleting data in Threadline does not delete anything held by Meta. To manage that data, use Instagram's own privacy settings.
